WE STILL NEED YOUR HELP!!

IndianHead Watershead Association Third Annual Fishing Derby - 6/21/08:

Our 3rd Annual Childrens Fishing Derby has come and gone. We had over 70 kids registered - almost 50 of them were between the ages of 5 and 9. They didn't seem to care that the fish weren't bitting very much. It was just a great way to spend a few hours outside with mom or dad. We enjoy seeing the youngsters show such an interest in fishing. They are the "Future Generations" we want to "Save the Recreation" for!

Association members appreciated Sen. John Refferty taking time from his busy schedule to stop by and spend some time with us. Some Stony Creek Angler members were here to help the kids or parents who just weren't sure "how to fish".

Believe it or not, many children under the age 5 caught more fish then the older ones. Of course, they caught them at Rainbow River (our game) instead of the Perkiomen Creek! Our lollipop game was also a great success.

Plenty of people enjoyed our hot dogs, tomato pie, chips, brownies and rice krispy treats - Lets not forget all the donuts, coffee, soda, water and juices. We didnt do this alone.

We would like to extend our thanks to the following companies and families which helped make our day a success.

IndianHead Watershead Association Third Annual Pig Roast - 9/22/07:

Saturday morning scared us - showers - but once we setup tents, the rain stopped and we had a great time. Over 150 people attended our 3rd Annual Pig Roast including Senator John Rafferty and Mike Vereb.

Tables were setup on Tyson mill Road. Neighbors, family and friends enjoyed the food, the view and the music.

We want to thank Cappy Hoy for allowing us to user her property for parking - her sons Donald and Jimmy for helping with parking and her grandson James for putting together  a great band.

Many thanks to the families who donated food, supplies or time to help us:

June 16th was such a beautiful day. The sun was shining almost as brightly as the smiles of the children.

This year we partnered with Stony Creek Anglers and The Lower Providence Optimist Club for our 2ns Annual Children's Fishing Derby. Stony Creek had experienced anglers here to help the children and also acted as judges. The Optimist Club gave us a check to help cover the cost of some of the prizes.

Senator John Refferty was here to see all the fun and to show his support for our cause.

We had over 60 children sign up this year with over 200 fish caught. Now, some of them might have been caught 2 or 3 times but the kids didn't care! They were just having fun! The Sunny seemed to be the most popular but Bass, Trout, Catfish and Suckers were also caught. Seems the Carp weren't biting this year.

There was plenty of food and drink for all. The kids seemed to enjoy playing the games.

We wish to thank the following companies for their help as well as the families that had people volunteer by supplying food and or their time.

Saturday, September 30th 2006:

We help our 2nd annual Pig Roast on Sept. 30th, 2006. The weather wasn't the best but we had a good turnout. It was great to see all the kids running around and playing games - espcially when the politicians were here.

U.S. Congressman Curt Weldon gave us a donation and his support. His campaign fire truck sure was a hit with the kids.

Pa Senator john Rafferty has been working with us for over a year now. He has made sure DEP won't be doing anything with "our dam" without checking with his office. He is trying to make this temporary solution into a permanent one.

County Commissioner jim Mathews informed us that the country is working on preserving this pristine area of recreation. He said the dam will be saved.

Mike Vereb, who is running for State representative told us if he is elected he will do what he can to help Senator Rafferty.

Even though we received such positive support and statements from Commissioner Mathews, Senator Rafferty and Congressman Weldon, we cannot let our guard down yet. Until somerthing is in writing we should not consider the dam saved! We still need people to attend our meetings to show your support!

We would like to thank the following companies for their support as well as many thanks to the following familes who helped with food, raffles and games.

Fishing Derby and Fun Day

On Saturday, June 24th, 2006, the Association held our 1st Annual Children's Fish Derrby/ Fun Day. The weather left a lot to be desired but the kids didn't seem to mind. We had a total or 43 children fishing on both sides of the creek, from right above the dam up to the Arcola Bridge. Click here to goto to the pictures page for the Fish Derby

The Fish and Boat Commission supplied us with some educational material for the kids. They also supplied some rods and reels we could load to participants. Scott Cosmi donated a poster to each entrant.

By the time the Derby was called due to an approaching storm, over 30 fish had been caught. Fish Derby Chairman, Donald Hoy and his many volunteers measured the fish and took pictures.

Prizes were privided by -
A W Golden Car Dealership
Cabella's
Dicks Sporting Goods
Models Sporting Goods
North East Scuba Supply

Us Congressman Gerlach took time from his busy day to come see our beautiful recreational area and speak to us about helping to preserve this area.

Our Fun Day consisted of several games for the children. The football toss and baseball throw even had some adult participants! Games and prizes were provided by Becky & Dave Bancroft and Linda & Harry Hall. Signs for the games were provided by Bourne Graphics. Thanks to all those members who helped run the games.

We sold hot dogs, drinks, chips, small desserts and tomato pie which was supplied by the Conshohocken Italian Bakery.

Our day could not have been such a success without the volunteers and people who donated items of food, bait, tackle, etc., to help our Derby.

Sunday, May 7th, 2006 at 2 pm:

We had about 25 people attend our Association meeting on that day with Richard Czop from the PA Fish and Boat Commission, and Steve Nelson from Montco presenting to our group some of the steps that will be necessary for retaining the Dam. As the county considers their involvement and our corporate structure becomes complete we will pursue grants/fund where available such as Growing Greener II...

Our directors for the IndianHead Watershed Association are:
Tom Speers, Harry Hall and Dan Small.
The directors will be meeting again as we formalize our 501(c) organiztion.

IndianHead Watershead Association Pig Roast - 10/1/05:

On Saturday, October 1, 2005, the IndianHead Watershed (IWA) conducted our first ANNUAL Pig Roast.  We could not have asked for more beautiful weather or such a great turnout for the day.

The day was filled with great food, fantastic live Reggae music and everyone had a wonderful time.  About 200 people attended, and many children enjoyed the day very much.  We look forward to more Pig Roasts in the years to come!

The event was attended by many politicians. To note, Montgomery County Commissioner Chairman Jim Matthews attended the event, and was very pleased to see the wonderful recreational area created by the IndianHead Dam, right here in Montgomery  County. IWA’s goal with this event was to share with others in our community the great gem we have right here in our own back yard, and we are pleased that we have succeeded in accomplishing that goal.

Thanks to so many who tirelessly worked to make this event a success.  Particularly, many thanks to Linda Hall, Coordinator of the Food Planning committee and her husband Harry Hall and family, for coordinating the set-up of the grounds for the picnic.  So many people lent a hand in making this event a success, and we would like to thank everyone who helped or who attended.

9/6/05 – Upper Providence Township Meeting - Update

More GOOD NEWS!

We’ve accomplished yet another small step in gaining public support for saving the IndianHead Dam.  The IndianHead Watershed Association presented their position at the Upper  Providence  Township meeting on September 6.  The Township Supervisors have decided to make a resolution of support of preserving the IndianHead Dam!!!  Thank you to all that came to the meeting to demonstrate your stance to save the dam.  Let’s keep the momentum going!  Stay tuned for additional meetings and plans to make this happen.

Lower Providence Township Meeting - 8/18/05 - Update:

THANK YOU!!
We, the IndianHead Watershed Association, presented our position to save the IndianHead Dam to the Lower Providence Township Board of Supervisors on August 18, 2005.

We would like to thank EVERYONE who attended! Our supporters and Association members filled the meeting room as there was "standing-room only."
The presentation was well received by both the public and the Township Supervisors.
The Lower Providence Township Supervisors have made the decision to support our movement and explore the options available to preserve this unique recreational waterway!

This is a huge accomplishment and a great first step for saving this gem for our community and the generations to come. We are pleased with the outcome.

Many thanks to the Lower Providence Township Supervisors.

Some Photos from the meeting...

Meetings of the IndianHead Watershed Association:

Our first public meeting held July 31st. We had a great turnout of over 70 attendees. Our focus was to determine our best avenues to save the dam.

Our second meeting was held on August 7th. Jackie Crahalla, PA State Representative, was in attendance and vocalized her support in our efforts. We would like to offically thank Jackie for her support in our cause! At this meeting we set up our committees. Should you be interested in joining us, please email us at saveindiandam@comcast.net or call us at 610-650-8911.
